POST MALONE AND MEEK MILL
2019 was the year Castle Lite Unlocks became about everything hip hop, unlocked in one place. It was a two-day experience where we not only unlocked the talented, authentic and crowd-loving Meek Mill, but also award winning rapper, actor, producer and song writer, Post Malone. Other artists that treated us to Extra Cold performances include, Sway Calloway, Riky Rick, Nadia Nakai, Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Rouge, DJ PH, DJ Ayanda MVP, to name a few.
Over the two days, we immersed people in every aspect of hip hop culture from fashion to art, cyphers to custom sneakers, b-ball to dance and everything in between. We held masterclasses and Cold Table Convos, and there were performances that lit the stage on fire.
Chance the Rapper
2018 came with an extraordinary Extra Cold performance by three-time Grammy winning artist, Chance the Rapper. We knew this artist announcement had to be special, so it was locked in a large block of ice and the guests at an exclusive event in Braamfontein had to break the ice to reveal our headline act. We took the event to the next level with a local line-up that included Nadia Nakai, Frank Casino, and Shane Eagle, as well as DJ PH, Miss Cosmo, Ayanda MVP, and Major League DJs.
Over 15 000 people experienced an unforgettable show with surprise acts from local stars, Youngsta CPT, Emtee, Moozlie and Rouge.
Travis Scott and Bryson Tiller
2017 was the year we unlocked Travis Scott and Bryson Tiller, two of the coldest trap artists in the game. And this time, we brought the Extra Cold Experience to two cities, Johannesburg and Polokwane. Both concerts were packed as the venues were brought to a standstill. Travis Scott had the Dome shaking while Bryson Tiller had the ladies weeping and singing along to his bangers. Some of the epic local artists also electrifying the crowd included Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick, Dj Vigilante, Dj Speedsta, Nasty C, Moozlie and DJ Warras and Sho Madjozi.
In 2016, we unlocked multi-award winning rapper, producer, writer and hip hop superstar, J Cole for one night only at the TicketPro Dome. Golden Circle tickets sold out within a few hours, our website even crashed. And the demand for more was so high, we had to release another batch of tickets. Many considered it the most highly anticipated event on Joburg’s social calendar in 2016 and over 20 000 captivated fans will confirm that it didn’t disappoint as the hip hop sensation brought his classic hits to life. Performing on the same stage that night were local superstars, Kwesta, Reason, Emtee as well as DJs Speedsta and Vigilante
The Castle Lite Unlocks experience grew even further in 2014 when we unlocked multi-Grammy nominated Nas, the chart topping Whiz Khalifa and legendary, and the multi-talented performer, producer, song-writer and beats genius, Timbaland. The Extra Cold Music Concert experience took place in Centurion and also featured top local acts including Mi Casa, Spoek Mathambo, DJ Kent, Black Motion, DJ Milshake and Beatenberg. Leading up to the event, we teamed up with Timberland to break collaboration boundaries by creating a unique Extra Cold Music platform where new local and international music can be downloaded weekly by fans. Plus, a collab between Nas and the JHB philharmonic orchestra, as well as between Mi Casa and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, were available for exclusive download on the night.
2013 was the year we unlocked one of the most awarded artists of all time, the one and only (his name literally means ‘Only One’ in Swahili), Kanye West. Widely considered a musical genius whose lyrics have become the soundtrack of our generation, Kanye doesn’t need much of an introduction.
6000 fans witnessed Yeezy headline an exclusive and intimate Castle Lite Feel the Beat of Sub Zero Experience in an Extra Cold, glacial setting. The night was mind-blowing and extraordinary, allowing people to engage with Castle Lite on another level through remarkable live acts and innovation.
It all started in 2011 when we unlocked Drake with an exclusive “all-white” concert after a petition started by local South African celebrities Dineo Ranaka, Slikour and T-Bo Touch to bring the superstar to Mzansi went viral. Tickets sold out in under 6 hours and over 4000 people got to see the hip hop heavyweight perform in a completely unique and unforgettable Castle Lite Feel the Beat of Sub Zero Experience at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg.
Opening for Drizzy were house outfit Mi Casa, beatboxer George Avakian and hip hop artist Khuli Chana. More than 2000 people in the crowd were dressed in all white for ‘No Regret Friday’, breaking the world record with the World Record Academy for the most people dressed in white for a cause.
